Working Board – Open Call
Backwoods Literary Press is launching a paid Working Board and is currently seeking applications for two initial positions: Grants & Development and Operations & Administration.
These are hands-on roles for writers connected to rural places—people shaped by rural communities, even if you don’t live there now—who want to help build the infrastructure behind independent publishing and literary programming.
Working Board members receive a $100/month stipend and are expected to contribute an average of 5 hours per month over a 6-month term, with the possibility of renewal. Our goal is to build sustainable capacity over time, with the intention of expanding roles, responsibilities, and compensation as resources allow. This board is collaborative and practical, supporting day-to-day operations, fundraising, and long-term sustainability.
We are especially interested in working with BIPOC, LGBTQ+, immigrant, disabled, and working-class writers. Prior board experience is not required; we are looking for people with real capacity, relevant skills, and a genuine interest in doing behind-the-scenes work that helps sustain creative communities.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
Priority consideration deadline: February 18th.
